Dr Vijayant G Gupta is a Urologist and a Robotic Surgeon in New Delhi, India. He is trained in Robotic surgery from PGIMER Chandigarh. He is recipient of Robotic Surgeons Council of India scholarship awarded by the Vattikutti Foundation.

Robotic surgery also called as Robot assisted surgery is currently only performed on the Da Vinci systems made by Intuitive Surgicals, USA.

He has significant experience in performing urological surgeries on the Da Vinci Robotic system. For any queries or an appointment, contact today.

He is a full member of the European Association of Urology (EAU) and Urological Society of India (USI). He is an ex member of the American Urological Association (AUA). Trained and India and abroad, he provides consultation and surgeries at his practice in New Delhi India.

Robotic surgery is done by a robot. But a human surgeon controls the robot. A surgical robot can not operate autonomously. It is not like a self driven car. A human has to give inputs in a console which the robot replicates inside the patients body.

Robotic assisted surgery is a specialized field of surgery in which a Slave system (the Da Vinci Robot) is controlled by a master unit (The console surgeon). The movement of the surgeons hands are replicated by the surgical robot inside the patient.

A powerful camera provides 3 D High Definition view of the patient to the surgeon sitting remotely as he operates in a virtual environment and the exact movements are replicated inside the patient.

With the tools on his console the surgeon can perform intricate tasks such as cutting, stitching, moving and burning. Since all this can be done with very small incisions, it provides a great cosmetic advantage.

Small 8 mm incisions can accommodate the robotic arms inside the patient. Thus saving the patient from scars and post operative pain.

What Are The Advantages Of Robotic Surgery?

The advantages of robotic surgery for the patient are

  1. PAINLESS SURGERY
  2. COSMESIS – DUE TO SMALL SCARS
  3. LESS BLOOD LOSS – BETTER POST OPERATIVE RECOVERY
  4. BETTER RESULTS WITH INTRICATE SURGERIES DUE TO HIGHER MAGNIFICATION
  5. EARLY RETURN TO HOME AND WORK
  • THESE BENEFITS OF ROBOTIC SURGERY ARE STILL DEBATED IN SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE AND REAL BENEFITS ARE CONTROVERSIAL

How To Choose Your Robotic Surgeon?

The surgical robot is a specialized tool. Robotic surgeons need to spend significant time learning how to use the Da Vinci system.

Only surgeons trained in operating on a Da Vinci Robotic surgery platform, can use the robot for surgery.

I have assisted and performed more than 100 successful robotic assisted surgeries in the past 6 years.

My training in robotic surgery was completed at PGIMER Chandigarh. I learnt from the early pioneers of Robotic surgery in India like Dr AK Mandal and Dr SK Kumar. I have a cumulative experience of more than 6 years in performing robotic surgery.

My other accomplishments in robotic surgery are

1. Completed the training modules on the Robotic Simulator.
2. Was a vital part of the team performing robotic urological surgeries at the institute and was involved in every step from patient planning to discharge.
3. Assisted on the patient side in the First ever Robotic Pediatric Choledochal Cyst excision surgery performed at PGI.
4. Have published a paper on “Robotic Burch Colpo suspension for Stress Urinary Incontinence” in a PUBMED indexed Journal.
5. Helped organise a Conference on Robotic Surgery at PGIMER Chandigarh in Feb 2016.
6. Presented a Robotic Surgery Video in the “Best Video Category” at Agra  North Zone USI Conference.

7. I have been a Robotic Surgeon Council Scholar

What Robotic Assisted Surgeries Do I Perform?

Robotic Surgery For Prostate Cancer

Robot Assisted Laparoscopic Radical Prostatectomy (RARP)

Prostate cancer is a growing epidemic. In early stage prostate cancer surgical removal of the prostate is curative. The surgical removal of the entire prostate glans is called Radical Prostatectomy. The prostate gland resides deep in the pelvis. Robotic surgery for prostate cancer has revolutionized the field. Today with robotic surgery the prostate glans can be easily and completely removed. I regularly perform Robotic assisted Radical Prostatectomy in New Delhi India.

Robotic Surgery For Kidney Cancer

Robotic assisted Nephron Sparing Surgery NSS

In Kidney cancer patients removal of the tumor is essential. But instead of removing the entire kidney only part of the kidney can be removed. This is called nephron sparing surgery. Using Da Vinci, Robotic Surgeon can remove only part of the kidney.

Robotic Surgery For Pyeloplasty

Robotic Pyeloplasty for PUJ Obstruction

PUJ is a condition in which the pelvis of the kidney and ureter are not joint properly. This usually requires correction. With a robot this surgery can also be performed quickly and simply with long term good results.
