For Curvature correction along with Penile Prosthesis insertion
Congenital penile curvature results from disproportionate development of the tunica albuginea of the corporal bodies and is not associated with urethral malformation. This means that one chamber of the penis is developed more than other.
In the majority of cases, the curvature is ventral, but it can also be lateral and, more rarely, dorsal. This means that most patients the penis bent downwards, or sideways. In some patients penis may be bent upwards also.
Congenital Penile Curvature Treatment Options
There are 3 therapeutic options for management of these cases
- Observation – If the curvature is less than 15 degrees, and there is no problem in intercourse or sexual fulfillment. In mild curvatures no treatment is required.
- Non Surgical intervention – If the curvature is moderate (15 degrees to 30 degrees) and in only one plane, then non surgical therapies may be of benefit.
- Surgical Intervention – In Biplanar or multiplanar congenital curvatures or if CPC is more than 30 degrees surgical treatment becomes essential.
Non Surgical Treatment of CPC Congenital Penile Curvature
At my clinic we have achieved acceptable results with non surgical treatment modalities. We use a combination of three modalities
- P Shot (Stem Cell therapy) – Platelet rich plasma or PRP is injected in the deficient crura to promote growth.
- Penile Traction therapy – Continuous intermittent use of penile traction therapy is used. Patients are advised to apply and keep traction for atleast 2 to 3 hours a day in 15 minute intervals.
- Medical Supplementation – Supplementation with Vitamin E along with Verapamil has been found to be effective.
Success rates of these therapies have been found to be in the range of 70 to 80 percent. Curvature correction is usually in the range of 15 to 20 degrees over 6 months.
This combination therapy is an effective alternative before planning surgery.

Penile Curvature Surgery In Delhi, India
The mainstay of Congenital Penile Curvature correction is Surgical Treatment. Many surgeries have gained prominence over time like Lue’s 16 dot technique, Yachia Incision Plication, Nesbitts Excision Plication and Schroeder No Incision Plication.
These have been further modified by many authors. The techniques I use at my practice for correction are usually a fusion of the above mentioned techniques.
The current standard of care is the STAGE technique. This technique was developed by Dr. Egydio from Brazil. Also called as ” Superficial Tunica Albuginea Geometric-Based Excision “, it provides good results with minimal penile shortening.
Technical details of STAGE Technique for Congenital Penile Curvature
- Penile curvature analysis based on geometric principles
- Instead of one stage plication , plication staggered over stages. This allows better correction with no loss of length
- Only superficial tunica albuginea is incised. Preserves blood supply. No chance of ED
- Preserves sensation, prevent hypoasthesia
- Highly successful with minimal side effects
I will sometimes modify the conventional STAGE technique with the Lue’s dot technique when required. I may also sometimes approach the penis from a lateral mini incision approach rather than a full degloving incision.
